Walk Bike Berkeley’s COVID-related activities
#StayHomeStaySafe
Since the Bay Area Shelter in Place Order went into effect in March, Walk Bike Berkeley’s top priority has been protecting the health of our community by slowing the spread of the coronavirus. To that end, please:
Follow the City Health Officer's order to shelter in place.
Only walk or bike for essential trips (for example, groceries and exercise) and keep 6 ft between you and others. No group walks or bike rides.
Practice healthy behaviors to protect everyone, including wearing a face mask when you leave home.
Let’s put our most vulnerable community members first
In this moment we recognize that some of the most marginalized members of our community have the least choice to stay safe at home. So, please support efforts to address the mobility needs and safety of essential workers (for example, healthcare, grocery, transit, and delivery), elders, and the unhoused, among others.
Sign up for Berkeley Mutual Aid if you can lend a hand, or if you need help.
Volunteer with or give to the Berkeley Food Network .
Other ways we’re looking out for our community during the COVID-19 pandemic
Following Walk Bike Berkeley requests, the City
Made walk signals automatic at 47 high traffic intersections so that people do not have to push a button to activate them. This reduces the chance that these high touch surfaces will contribute to the spread of the virus while also improving the pedestrian experience.
Added bicycle repair shops as essential businesses that may continue operating during the Shelter in Place Order. See the FAQ, page 15.
Developed a Healthy Streets program to provide people with more space to walk and bike with physical distance.
